Photoshop - Merging background layer with shape

In this short tutorial I will show you a trick to merge background with shape ( drawn, text or any shape ).
1. Open photoshop application.

2. Import any image from your hard disk.

3. Double click this image and click OK to convert this background into a layer.

4. Draw a shape OR use shape tool and select any shape and draw above the background layer.

5. Push the shape layer below the background layer.

6. Now here is the trick. Press alt key on the keyboard and slide the mouse cursor between the two layers in the layers palette.

7. You will see the cursor change from hand to a mouse shape.

8. Click once and you will have a merged shape.
PS : If you want to merge text with image then you will have to first rasterize the text layer.
